I would like to write about the game Baccarat. It is a Casino game which i started playing almost a year ago now. The objective of the game is to form a 2 or 3-card combination that adds up to nine. The one with the hand closer to the value of nine wins. The values of the cards are equal to their face values, except for the 10’s, J’s, Q’s and K’s which are all equal to zero and the Ace which is equal to one. If you bet on the player’s hand and win, you get an amount equal to twice of the amount you’ve bet. If you bet on the banker and win, you also get double your bet, although a 5% commission will be taken on most tables. If you bet on the tie, you get a eight times your bet, and if you didn’t bet on the tie, but a tie comes, you automatically get your bet back. There really is no strategy for baccarat, mainly just a game of chance. There is also another bet which a lot of casinos do not use is called the dragon bonus. It only comes when banker wins with a 3rd card drawn and they equal 7. It pays out 40:1.
Baccarat is usually played with 8 decks of cards so trying to count cards is basically impossible. Sometimes certain casinos will use 6 decks but very rare. The only exception for 6 decks is mini bac which most people do not play. It is also very important to know the amount of time you will play and how much money you will spend. Remember that you are more likely to lose if you play longer no matter what baccarat strategy or baccarat systems do you use. I typically try to only play for a short amount of time, less then 30 minutes. I have made over 2,000$ in 15 minutes but have also lost over 5,000$ in under an hour. It is a fun game which money can be made fast or lost fast.
The culture of the game is typically asian. When i first started playing I was the only one at the table that was not asian. It has seemed to take a turn and more people are now begininning to play it, which is good. When the dragon bonus hits the asians go crazy as well as most people that play it since it pays out 40:1. That means if you have 10$ on it, you make 400$. I have talked to several of them and most seem to play with unlimited amounts of money and tend to bet 100-500$ a hand. Some have 2000-5000$ in chips in front of them and if they lose it, the wallet just comes right back out and is normally filled with 100 dollar bills. Dealers also like when the dragon bonus hits, because that is when they get tips. If they do not hit dragons it is likely the dealer will not make much money. Some dealers are very fun to talk to, others just seem to keep quiet and don't say much.
I think this will turn out to be a very unique essay. You could interview the players and bankers for some information. I would be careful, though, that you don't run out of things to say about this subculture.
ReplyDeletei think it it would be a cool to do this paper but i agree it will be challenging to not run out of things to say. maybe talk to some other players aswell
ReplyDeleteA few things that you should possibly talk about in your paper are: Explain what table games are, and then explain how Bak differentiates from the other table games. I.E. the odds of beating the house compartively to games like Black Jack. You could also discuss the origins of the game. Bak is a recent hit in the U.S., and the history of where the game came from will probly help explain why it is so popular in the Asian Community.
ReplyDeleteSounds interesting, ive never heard of it. Good luck. Looking foward to hear more.
